The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will play host to the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks in a Southland Conference series this weekend at Chapman Field. The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday and a single game with a 12 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
The Islanders come into the series with a 31-10 overall record and are currently 15-3 in league play. The Ladyjacks have struggled as of late and are 8-26 this season with a 4-11 Southland mark.
Hannah Schwarz continues to lead her team in batting with a .395 along with 11 RBI and a .439 on-base percentage. Caley Jeter leads the team with a .445 on-base percentage and is tied for the team lead with 31 RBI this season. Kacie Smith also had 31 RBI and is hitting .291 this year. Lauren Sanders has come on strong during conference play and is hitting .381 overall and is sitting at .463 to lead the league in conference game only.
Greta Cecchetti has the top ERA on the team at 2.25 while Vianca Pesina (2.44) and Jordan Trujillo (2.78) and Constance Brandenburg (4.54) round out the group of pitchers who have a 2.83 team ERA. Trujillo leads the team in wins at 12-5, followed by Pesina at 9-2, Cecchetti at 6-3 and Brandenburg at 4-0. Pesina has the lowest opponents' batting average at .205 while the team registers a .231 mark as a staff.
The leading hitter for SFA is Amber Price at .284 on the year. Cadie Weaver leads the team with 13 RBI while Elizabeth Ariana is close behind at 12 runs batted in. Ariana also leads the team with three home runs while Bethany Brown and Price each have two shots on the year.
Monika Covington is leading the team with a 2.89 ERA while sporting a 3-14 record. Carlie Thomas leads the team in wins from the circle with a 5-8 record and a 4.65 ERA. Opposing batters are hitting .268 against the Ladyjacks pitching staff.
