Softball travels to face Northwestern State in Southland Conference series

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will be on the road this weekend as they travel to face the Northwestern State Lady Demons in a three-game Southland Conference series. The road set will be played in Natchitoches, La. with a doubleheader slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday and a 12 p.m. first pitch for the single game on Sunday.

The Islanders come into the weekend with a 29-9 record overall and a 12-2 mark in league action. They look to keep a five-game Southland winning streak alive as well as keep their hold on first place in the league. UT Arlington has just two losses as well but has played three games less at this juncture of the season. The Lady Demons are now 19-14 this year with a 5-7 mark in conference games.

Last time out for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a dramatic 5-4, walk-off victory to sweep the Texas State Bobcats. NSU struggled on the road against the Sam Houston Bearkats, losing two-of-three in their weekend series.

Leading the Islanders offense will be Hannah Schwarz with her .395 batting average, fourth best in the league. Lauren Sanders is hitting .381 as the second-leading batter while Caley Jeter is third at .347 on the year. Kacie Smith continues to lead the team and is now second in the league with her 28 RBI this year. Lauren Dodson is third in the SLC with 27 while Brittany Tucker is fourth at 26 this season.

For the Lady Demons, Kylie Roos leads the team both at the plate and in the circle. She is hitting .363 with seven home runs, second in the Southland, and 25 RBI while also sporting a 9-3 record with a 2.06 ERA. Kayla Cole (.344), Tara McKenney (.336) and Alyssa Ford (.321) are all hitting above .300 for NSU.

In addition to Roos, Kelee Grimes has done well in the pitching department with a 1.50 ERA but just a 3-4 won-loss record. Brooke Boening has a 2.09 ERA and 4-6 record while Kaitlin Holloway sits at a 2.17 ERA and 1-0 mark. The team has a league-leading ERA of 2.01 this year.
