Islanders softball set for midweek twin bill against No. 8 Texas in Austin

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will face one of their toughest challenges of the season on Wednesday when they travel to Austin for a doubleheader against the No. 8 Texas Longhorns.

The Islanders come into the day with a 26-7 overall record and having won 21-of-23 games. The Longhorns have lost just three contests this season and are now 24-3 after taking the Judi Garmin Classic this past weekend by winning their eighth game in-a-row.

The last time these two teams met, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi won an 8-4 game in the second half of a doubleheader to split with Texas. The all-time series is led 18-3 by the Longhorns, but the Islanders have won two of those games since current head coach Jake Schumann has taken over the program, picking up a win in each of the last two seasons.

Offensive, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi is led by Hannah Schwarz and her .431 batting average which is second in the Southland Conference. Kacie Smith leads both the team and the league with her 27 RBI while both Brittany Tucker and Lauren Dodson are tied for second in RBI with 24 apiece.

For the Longhorns, they have three batters with over a .400 batting average, led by Torie Schmidt with a .444 mark. Lexy Bennett is second at .434 and Taylor Hoagland rounds out the trio with a .402 average. Hoagland leads the team with eight home runs while Taylor Thom has seven homers and is tops of the team with 28 RBI.
