Islanders softball back on the road for series against Nicholls

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will be back on the road this weekend for a Southland Conference series against the Nicholls Colonels. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Colonel Softball Complex.

The Islanders come into the weekend with a 24-6 record overall and an 8-1 mark in league play. The team has won 19-of-20 games heading into the series. The Colonels are 7-14 this year with a 1-4 record in conference play.

Hannah Schwarz comes into the series with a .415 batting average and is currently third in the Southland for batting average. She is tops in hits (38), third in runs scored (24), second in triples (2), third in stolen bases (7). Caley Jeter comes into the contest sixth in the league with a .392 average and tied for first with 26 runs scored.

Kacie Smith is leading the conference with 27 RBI while Brittany Tucker is tied for second with 23 RBI of her own. As a team, they lead the league with a .317 batting average with the next closest being UT Arlington with a .284 average.

In the pitching department, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi is fourth as a team 2.80 team ERA and have three of the top 10 individual ERAs in the league. Vianca Pesina has the lowest one the team with a 2.00 ERA, tied for third in the Southland, to go along with an 8-1 record. Greta Cecchetti is seventh with a 2.46 ERA and a 3-2 record while Jordan Trujillo is tenth at 2.66 and is tied for the league lead in wins with a 10-3 record.

The Colonels are sixth with a .260 team batting average while Ashley Ray is ninth individually and leads the team with a .342 average. Brittany Marcet is at .309 and is the only other Nicholls batter averaging above .300 on the year. Ray is also the team leader and tied for second in the league with 23 RBI.

Ashton Bennett holds a 2.60 ERA and a 4-6 record as the top pitcher on the team. Katie Moulder is second at 3.79 and a 2-4 record while Carlee Winklemann rounds out the pitching trio with a 5.56 ERA and a 1-4 record.
