The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will host Houston on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. at Chapman Field. The second contest is set to follow at 4 p.m. against the Cougars.
The Islanders come into the twin bill with a record of 20-6 overall and have won 15-of-16 games coming into the games. Houston has been nationally-ranked throughout the season and was ranked No. 25 last week before being swept by UAB to open up Conference USA play.
The home team is coming off of a series win over Central Arkansas, losing game one 5-4 before taking 6-1 and 10-1 victories in the final two games. Vianca Pesina picked up both wins for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi as she improved to 8-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.29, the second best in the conference. Jordan Trujillo is 9-2 on the year as the other top pitcher on the team.
Offensively, Hannah Schwarz continues to lead the way with a .435 batting average while adding seven RBI and a team-high seven stolen bases. Stephanie Vead is second on the team with a .412 average while Kacie Smith is third at .371 while leading the team in RBI with 24 on the year. Brittany Tucker is second with 21 RBI while hitting .344 this season.
For the Cougars, Katy Beth Sherman is tops on the team with a .315 batting average, followed by Brooke Lathan at .273 this season. Lathan is tied with Jennifer Klinkert for the team lead with 13 RBI. Amanda Crabtree is the leading pitcher for UH with a 10-4 record and a 1.19 ERA.
