The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will be taking to the road this weekend in a three-game series against the Central Arkansas Bears. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. and a single game on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Conway, Ark. on the UCA campus.
The Islanders come into the game with a record of 18-5 on the season and 6-0 in the Southland Conference. The Bears are 9-11 overall and 2-1 in league games with a 3-0 record in home games.
Leading the way for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi will be Hannah Schwarz and her .421 batting average, good for fourth in the league. Kacie Smith is tenth among Southland batters in average at .373 and tied for third in RBI with 21 this season. Brittany Tucker is right behind her in fifth with 20 RBI this year.
In the pitching department, the Islanders have two of the top seven ERAs in the Southland with Vianca Pesina at 1.50 and Jordan Trujillo with a 2.45 mark. Trujillo leads the league with nine wins and has a 9-2 record while Pesina is fifth in wins with a 6-1 record.
The team is coming off of a pair of wins on Tuesday against Houston Baptist at Chapman Field. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi rallied in the first game to win 4-2 and shutout the Huskies by a 5-0 in game two.
For UCA, Melanie Bryant is tops with a .469 batting average, good for second in the Southland, and is followed by Kasey Britt and her .393 average. Both hitters have 15 RBI and are tied for the team lead in the category. Bryant also has five home runs and is second in the league. Their leading pitcher is Kelsie Armstrong with a 1.61 ERA and 6-8 record on the season.
Last time out, the Bears won the first two games in a series against McNeese State before losing the finale.
