Softball drops 9-1 decision to Kennesaw State in Hillenbrand Invitational

Tucson, Ariz. - Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball lost 9-1 to Kennesaw State on Saturday night at the University of Arizona Hillenbrand Invitational. The Owls raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first two innings doing in the Islanders.

In the first inning Kennesaw State hit a single and a double before Sharon Swanson belted a three-run homer off Greta Cecchetti. Cecchetti would not make it out of the first inning, getting the hook after a third of an inning.

The Owls scored five runs in the top of the second inning off Constance Brandenburg, who allowed four hits, only one for extra bases.

Caley Jeter led off the fourth inning for the Islanders and moved to second base on a ground out by Kacie Smith. Lauren Dodson came up next and singled up the middle, scoring Jeter to make the score 8-1.

Kennesaw State added a run in the top of the seventh to make the final score 9-1 Owls.

Tomorrow Texas A&M - Corpus Christi will conclude the Hillenbrand Invitational against the University of Arizona with a 12 p.m. first pitch.
