CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team bookended the final day of the Best Western Marina Grand Invitational with a pair of wins to take the tournament championship, winning 9-0 early in the morning over UT Arlington and taking a 5-1 final over Loyola Chicago in the championship game.

Brandenburg pitched the final three innings of the game, allowing one run on two hits while striking out one and walking none.

Hannah Schwarz started off the Islanders half of the first with a single up the middle but was thrown out when Lauren Sanders reached on a fielder's choice. Jeter singled to left to advance Sanders to second and a Kacie Smith moved Sanders over to third on a fly out. After a Lauren Dodson walk loaded the bases, Tucker hit a 3-2 pitch through the right side of the infield and it rolled all the way to the wall for a bases-clearing double to make it 3-0 after the first.

In the bottom of the second, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi added a pair of insurance runs when Laura Phillips reached on a hit-by-pitch and advanced to third when Sandy Schumann doubled to right center. Both runners were brought home when Jeter singled up the middle to make it a 5-0 game in favor of the home team.

Loyola Chicago added a single run in the sixth, but the pitching duo of Trujillo and Brandenburg held the Ramblers to just four hits and one run as the Islanders got another great performance from their pitchers.

Jeter finished the day with three hits and two RBI while Schwarz, Smith, Tucker and Schumann had one hit apiece. Tucker had the other three RBI for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.

Next up for the Islanders will be another tournament, this time at the Hillebrand Invitational hosted by Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. on Feb. 18-20. They will take on the top-ranked Arizona Wildcats as well as Pacific, Drake and Kennesaw State.
