San Marcos - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team's 2010 season came to an end on Friday night with a 3-2 loss to the UT Arlington Lady Mavs in their second game of the Southland Conference Tournament.

The Islanders finish the season with a record of 35-22, the third-highest win total in program history. They also set a school record for Southland Conference victories with a 16-14 record in league play this year. Addie Tallman started the game and was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs, all earned, on three hits and three walks. She finishes the season with a 12-9 record on the year and with 32 wins in her career, second in Islander history to Sarah Pauly's 112 wins.

UT Arlington struck first with three runs in the top of the second inning. An RBI double by Courtney Enocksen and a two-RBI triple by Courtney Zink provided the scoring for the Mavericks. With just one out, Margo Hurdt came in to pitch with a runner on third and shut down the Lady Mavs offense. She pitched 5.2 innings without allowing a run to keep the Islanders in the game.

"Margo pitched great, she went out there and shut them out for five innings," said head coach Jake Schumann. "That's a good way to go out in your senior year.

"She thinks of herself as a hitter first and it's probably frustrating for her but as a team aspect, she kept us in the game."

A&M-Corpus Christi had a chance to respond in the bottom half of the third inning, getting the first two batters on with no outs and moving the runners over to second and third with just one out. They were unable to bring them home however as the final two batters of the inning struck out swinging to end the threat.

"We had plenty of opportunities to score but we just have to put a ball in play," said Schumann. "It's hard to explain when your offense produces all year but that happens sometimes in the postseason.

"The playoffs are a test of your complete game."

The Islanders got on the board for the first time in the tournament in the bottom of the fourth when Sandy Schumann connected on the first pitch she saw for a home run over the left field fence to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Lady Mavs.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Islanders were down to their final out of the year. Cassie Redman reached and advanced to second base on an error by the left fielder. Caley Jeter followed with a double over the left fielder's head to score Redman and make it 3-2 with two outs in the inning. Pinch hitter Meagan McKinney then reached on an infield single just off of the glove of pitcher Cara Hulme to move Jeter to third and put runners on the corners for Brittany Tucker. Despite a tough at-bat by the Islander catcher that last nine pitches, she struck out swinging to end the game with a 3-2 loss for A&M-Corpus Christi.

"They have been doing that all year, we get smacked in the face and have to get respect back when we get behind," said Schumann. "Instead of jumping on people and knocking them down we have to fight back but when you are in the playoffs and the other team is doing things right, it makes it more difficult to do."

The Islanders finish their first appearance in the Southland Conference Tournament 0-2 with a 6-0 loss to McNeese State and a 3-2 loss to the Lady Mavs.
