The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will be making the long trek from Corpus Christi to Hammond, La. this weekend for its final series of the year against the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 3 PM with a single game to follow at 12 PM on Sunday afternoon.

Coming into the weekend the Islanders are 32-20 overall with a 13-14 record in the Southland Conference. They are currently sitting in seventh place with just three games left in the season and the top six teams making the Southland Conference Tournament. To qualify for postseason play, the Islanders will need to sweep SELA and have UTSA, McNeese State or Nicholls lose 2-of-3 games this weekend. The Lady Lions are 11-34 overall and 3-22 in league play.

Hannah Schwarz is the top hitter on the Islander team with a .406 batting average this year. She also leads the Southland Conference in the category as well as sacrifice bunts with 12 while being ranked fourth in stolen bases at 19 on the season. Senior Margo Hurdt and junior Brittany Tucker are tied for the team lead with eight home runs while Hurdt is fifth in the Southland with 33 RBI and Tucker is seventh at 32 RBI. Caley Jeter continues to lead the league with a spectacular .520 on-base percentage, 40 points better than anyone else in the conference. Jeter is also third in batting average with a .373 mark and second in walks with 33 on the year.

Hurdt picked up both wins for the Islanders last week to improve to 5-2 on the year in the circle. Elena Crabtree is 14-11 on the season with five saves and a 3.39 ERA while Addie Tallman is now 12-7 with a 3.58 ERA as the top two pitchers for the Islanders.

The Lady Lions are led by Katie Duhe with a .325 batting average and 20 RBI. Duhe was named the Southland Hitter of the Week on Monday for her efforts last week. She batted .727 with one home run three RBI against Southern Miss and McNeese State. Jordan Logan is second on the team in batting average at .309 while Meghan Gomez is second in RBI with 17 on the year. Katelyn Thomason is the top pitcher on the team with a record of 5-10 and a 4.67 ERA.
