Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball player Lauren Dodson has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon by a vote of the league Sports Information Directors.

Dodson helped the Islanders go 4-1 on the week as they beat Prairie View A&M and McNeese State twice each to improve their record to 29-18 on the season. They sit just one win shy of breaking the 30-win plateau for just the fifth time in school history. The Islanders also improved to 11-13 in the Southland Conference, one win shy of the school record of 12 set last year.

"It's an honor for her to be recognized by her peers," said head coach Jake Schumann. "She has been swinging the bat well all year and had a good week for RBI.

"She came up in the right situations and came through for us so it was an extra bonus for her play."

Dodson hit .471 on the week, going 8-for-17 with two doubles, one home run and 11 RBI in five games. She had a five-RBI and three-RBI game against Prairie View A&M while recording one RBI in each of the three games against McNeese State. She hit safely in all five games last week to run her hitting streak to 10 games.

Dodson had a .765 slugging percentage and reached base in exactly half of her plate appearances for a .500 on-base percentage.

The Islanders have an off weekend in league action and will play a doubleheader against the Houston Baptist Huskies on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2 PM.
