The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will take to the road this weekend and travel to Lake Charles, La. for a crucial Southland Conference series at McNeese State. The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 PM on Saturday and follow with a single game at 11 AM on Sunday.

The Islanders come into the series with the most wins in the Southland Conference at 27-17 but have struggled to find a groove in league games with a record of 9-12 on the year and are seventh in the standings. The Cowgirls are tied for second-most wins in the conference with a 23-21 record overall while compiling a 9-9 league record and currently sit in fifth place of the Southland. The top six teams qualify for the conference tournament in San Marcos following the regular season.

Hannah Schwarz leads the Islanders and is second in the league with a .398 batting average. Cassie Redman is second on the team and third in the conference with a .379 average while Caley Jeter is right behind them with a .365 average, good for third on the team and fourth in the Southland. Brittany Tucker leads the team with 29 RBI while Jeter is second on the team with 25 this season. Lauren Dodson has come on strong this week, notching eight RBI in a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M to bring her total to 24 on the season, tied for third on the team with Margo Hurdt.

Liz Morvant leads the Cowgirls in both batting and RBI with a .336 average and 24 RBI on the season. She also leads the team and is tied atop the Southland in stolen bases, going a perfect 26-for-26 in steal attempts.

Morvant will be facing the arm of Tucker, the Islander catcher who leads the conference in runners caught stealing at 17, five more than her closest competition. She has only allowed 12 stolen bases against her all season.
