Nacogdoches - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team took a 10-3 loss in the first game of a Southland Conference doubleheader to Stephen F. Austin on Friday afternoon. In game two, the Islanders fell by a 10-2 final in five innings due to the conference run-rule.
The Islanders fall to 23-13 on the year with a 9-8 record in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks improved to 19-8 overall and 12-2 in the Southland. Starting pitcher Elena Crabtree took the loss to fall to 13-6 on the season in game one and game two started Addie Tallman moved to 7-5 on the season with the loss.
In game one, after falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, the Islanders scored a single run in the third and two in the third to tie the game at 3-3 after four innings. Brittany Tucker hit her eighth home run of the season and went 2-for-2 in the game.
The Ladyjacks added a single run in the fifth inning to regain the lead at 4-3 and score six runs in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the lead to the 10-3 final.
Tucker led the team offensively by going 2-for-2 with an RBI while Cassie Redman and Caley Jeter each added one RBI.
In the second game, the Islanders struggled to get going offensively, falling behind 8-0 before scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to keep the game alive. Sandy Schumann doubled down the left-field line and Meagan McKinney followed with a single to put runners on first and third base. A Lauren Sanders groundout moved McKinney over to second and a Redman single scored Schumann and McKinney to put the Islanders on the board at 8-2.
In the bottom half of the fifth, the Ladyjacks scored two runs to put the run-rule into effect.
Redman led the team offensively in the second game, going 2-for-3 with two RBI while Kacie Smith and McKinney had the only other hits for TAMUCC.
The two teams will play a single game beginning at 1 PM on Saturday afternoon to wrap up their Southland Conference series.
