ISLANDER SOFTBALL SET FOR SHOWDOWN WITH FIRST PLACE STEPHEN F. AUSTIN

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will face a tough test this weekend as they travel to Nacogdoches to take on the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks in a battle of two of the top teams in the Southland Conference. The Islanders are currently in fourth place while SFA sits atop of the league in first place.

TAMUCC comes into the series with a 23-11 record overall and a 9-6 Southland record. The Ladyjacks are 17-8 overall and 10-2 in the Southland.

The Islanders lead the league in eight offensive categories, including batting average at .316 on the year. Hannah Schwarz is tops in the league with a .425 average, followed closely by Cassie Redman at .418 on the season. Caley Jeter makes 3-of-4 for the Islanders at .385 for fourth in the league. Jeter (.500), Schwarz (.487) and Redman (.480) are the top three in the Southland in on-base percentage. As a pitching staff, the Islanders have a 3.80 team ERA and are led by Elena Crabtree with 13 wins, four saves and a 3.12 ERA. The wins and saves are both tops in the Southland Conference while the saves are fourth in the nation.

Briana Bishop is the top hitter for SFA with a .342 average and 17 RBI. As a team, they are fourth in the conference with a .270 batting average. As a pitching staff, they are second in the league with a 2.64 ERA and are led by Monika Covington with a 2.39 ERA. Angela White is second on the team with a 3.05 ERA.

The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 PM on Friday with a single game concluding the series at 1 PM on Saturday. Game time could be moved up to avoid possible weather delays. Live stats and audio will be available by visiting www.GoIslanders.com.
