The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will hope to build on the momentum of a win over No. 15 Texas this past Thursday when they play host to the Northwestern State Lady Demons in a Southland Conference series at Chapman Field. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 PM and then a single game on Sunday starting at 11 AM.

The Islanders come into the game with a 20-11 record on the year and a 6-6 record in Southland games. The Lady Demons are 15-13 overall and 3-6 in the Southland. TAMUCC split a doubleheader with No. 15 Texas on Thursday in their last action while NWLA lost 7-3 to Southern on the same night.

Brittany Tucker was the driving force in the second game against the Longhorns, hitting a two-run home run and driving in a total of four runs as they picked up an 8-4 victory, their second win over a ranked opponent this season.

Tucker now leads the team with 25 RBI and is batting .333 this season. Cassie Redman leads the team in batting average at .405 with 10 RBI. As a team, the Islanders are hitting .316, tops in the Southland Conference and is the only team batting above .300 for the season. Second place in the league is the opponent, Northwestern State, with a .288 team average.

Kayla Cole leads the visitors with a .400 batting average and 20 RBI. Samantha Roberts holds the team lead in RBI with 25 on the season and bats .392 on the year. Ashleigh Kuhn is tied with Cole for second with 20 RBI as well.
