Austin - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team (20-11) had a short memory on Thursday evening at No. 15 Texas (24-8). After losing 13-4 in game one, the Islanders won game two 8-4. Brittany Tucker was the hero in the second game, going 2-for-4 with a homerun and four RBI while Addie Tallman scattered two runs on seven hits for the win.

In the second game the 'Horns jumped out to a 2-0 lead with key two out hits in the fourth and fifth innings off of the starter Tallman to grab a 2-0 lead.

Trailing in the top of the fifth inning, A&M-Corpus Christi broke the game wide open, scoring six runs on five hits. Tucker started the scoring with a two-run double. The next inning, the Islanders added to their advantage as Tucker, who tied the game in her previous at bat, hit a long two-run home run to left field pushing the lead to six 8-2.

In game one, the Longhorns chased starter Elena Crabtree from the game after 2/3rds of an inning after she allowed seven runs on six hits. Margo Hurdt came into the game to relieve her and finished off the game.

Taylor Hoagland led off the first for the Longhorns with a home run, one of two for Texas in the first inning, in addition to three RBI doubles.

A&M-Corpus Christi cut the deficit to three runs in the next half inning by plating four runs. Meagan McKinney brought home the first run with a single to third plating Kacie Smith. After scoring another run, Cassie Redman pulled the visitors to within three with a two-run single to center field making the score 7-4.

UT answered with two runs off Hurdt with two runs in the bottom of the second and scored four more in the bottom of the fourth to go up by nine. TAMUCC failed to get anything going in the top of the fifth inning to end the first game.

"I thought we played well in both games offensively, Addie pitched awesome for us tonight and allowed the defense to make plays behind her," said head coach Jake Schumann "I liked how our team had a short memory after game one and bounced back.

"I'm really proud of them."

The win for TAMUCC was its first in Austin since 2005 and was also the first home loss of the season for No. 15 Texas.

The Islanders return home to Chapman Field on Saturday for a Southland Conference doubleheader against Northwestern State starting at 1 p.m.
