The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team was unable to keep the momentum going on Sunday as they fell by a 7-2 final to Central Arkansas at Chapman Field. The Islanders won 2-of-3 games in the series.

TAMUCC moves to 15-6 overall and 3-3 in Southland Conference games. The Bears improved to 7-12 on the season and 1-2 in Southland contests. Elena Crabtree started the game and picks up the loss, falling to 9-2 on the season. Crabtree pitched 5.2 innings, giving up six runs, four of them earned, on 11 hits and one walk while striking out four batters.

After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Islanders responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Lauren Sanders started it off with a single to center field and advanced to second when Hannah Schwarz reached on an error. Cassie Redman picked up an RBI-single next to score Sanders and move Schwarz up a base. Redman moved to second following an out by Schwarz trying to steal third base and scored when Caley Jeter singled up the middle to make it 2-1 in favor of the Islanders.

The lead held until the top of the fifth when the Bears picked up two runs on a home run to take a 3-2 lead. They added three more in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it a 7-2 final score.

Offensively for the Islanders, Jeter led the way, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. Redman picked up the other TAMUCC RBI and went 2-for-3 with a walk. Sanders also picked up a pair of hits while Schwarz and Margo Hurdt also recorded a hit in the game.

Next up for the Islanders is a pair of midweek games on Tuesday afternoon against Texas A&M in College Station starting at 5 PM. Following those games, they return home for another Southland series against Nicholls on Saturday and Sunday.
