ISLANDERS CLAIM GAME ONE IN EXTRA INNINGS

Margo Hurdt led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a double to left and scored on a bunt single by Hannah Schwarz as the Islanders handed Central Arkansas a 2-1 loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Chapman Field.

Hurdt lined her second double of the afternoon to left and moved to third on a single Lauren Dodson. Schwarz then came through with her team-best third hit of the game to break the tie.

Central Arkansas struck first with a run in the top of the first innings. Candice Gauntt led off the inning with an infield hit and stole second. After moving to third on a ground out, the Bears lead-off hitter crossed the plate on grounder by Kasey Britt.

The Islanders, who left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, tied the game in the third. With two away, Caley Jeter singled down the line in right. She advanced to third on one of two errors on the afternoon by UCA shortstop Preslie Long as Meagan McKinney reached base. She scored on a throwing error by catcher Melanie Bryant, who was attempting to throw out McKinney on a steal attempt.

Neither team would strike again until Hurdt scored the game winning run in the eighth despite combining to strand 12 runners in the final 4-1/2 innings.

Elaina Crabtree earned the win moving to 9-1 on the season. She allowed four hits in eight innings of work with a walk and a strikeout. Kelsie Armstrong suffered the loss. She permitted two runs with one earned on eight hits, while walking four and striking out four.

Joining Schwarz with multiple hits in game one were Hurdt and Jeter who each had a pair of hits. Gauntt had three of the Bears four hits.
