The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team continued its hot streak on Saturday at Chapman Field to run its win streak to 10 games, its longest since a 12-game streak during the 2005 season. The Islanders beat the North Dakota Fightin' Sioux by a 9-3 final on the third day of the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Invitational.

The Islanders are currently 11-3 on the year on the backs of their winning streak. The Sioux are now 2-6 early in the season. Margo Hurdt started the game in the circle for TAMUCC and evened her record to 1-1 with the victory. She gave up just one run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in 4.0 innings.

Cassie Redman extended her hitting streak to 10 games in a big way, hitting the first home run of her collegiate career as part of a seven-run inning that helped the Islanders pull away in the game. Redman was one of four Islanders with a pair of RBI on the day as Kyrie Panter, Brittany Tucker and Hurdt each picked up two apiece.

After UND started the game with a run in the first inning, the Islanders quickly responded to even the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning on a Meagan McKinney triple to right field that scored Hannah Schwarz.

The Islanders added to the damage in the third inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits and one Sioux error. Lauren Sanders started the inning with a single to left field and moved to second on a stolen base. Caley Jeter moved Sanders over to third with a single and then stole second to put two runners in scoring position. After Panter came on to pinch-run for Jeter, Kacie Smith singled to load the bases. That brought up Tucker who doubled to right center to bring home Sanders and Panter and make it 3-1 Islanders. Hurdt stepped to the plate next to help her cause, hitting a single through the right side to bring home Smith and Tucker and extend the lead.

That brought up Redman who took an 0-1 pitch down the right field line for the first home run of her career to make it 7-1 in favor of TAMUCC. The Islanders were not done however, picking up an unearned run before ending the inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead into the fourth inning.

The Sioux managed to get a pair of runs in the top of the fifth but could do no more. In the bottom half of the fifth, TAMUCC tacked on another run on a Panter bunt to score Schwarz and end the scoring.

The Islanders finish up the tournament on Sunday when they play UL Monroe in a 12 PM game in the final contest of the day. Live stats and video will be available by visiting
