The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will kick off the home softball season on Thursday with the first day of the Islander Invitational presented by Holiday Inn Emerald Beach. Thursday will feature the Islanders in games against Centenary at 12 PM and finish the first day with a 2 PM game against Boston College. In addition to those teams, Southern (La.) is also in the tournament.

The Islanders are 2-3 on the season after defeating Southland member McNeese State twice in Hawaii's Paradise Classic this past weekend. TAMUCC lost twice to No. 10 Stanford and once to No. 38 Hawai'i in their other tournament games.

The Centenary Ladies come into the tournament at 0-1 on the season after losing their opener to No. 16 Texas by a 6-0 score in Austin. The Boston College Eagles have yet to play a game this season and the Southern Jaguars are 0-1 after a loss to Southern Miss with a game against Southeastern Louisiana scheduled for Wednesday.

True freshman Meagan McKinney went on a tear at the Paradise Classic and leads the team with two home runs and six RBIs. Junior Lauren Sanders leads the team in batting average after going 5-for-10 for a .500 average at the tournament. Transfer Brittany Tucker also hit a homer and picked up three RBIs and a .364 average.

After the Thursday games, the Islanders will face Southern on Friday, Boston College again on Saturday and finish with a second game against Southern on Sunday in the final day of the tournament.
