The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will be playing its second doubleheader of the fall schedule as they host St. Mary's in a pair of games set for Saturday afternoon at Chapman Field. Game 1 is slated to start at 1 PM while the second half is set for 3 PM.
After the regularly scheduled games, the Islanders will host an alumni softball game starting at 5 PM.
TAMUCC comes into the weekend looking to improve on some key areas from the previous weeks' doubleheader against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Islanders won those games by 8-1 and 15-0 scores but have worked hard to continue improving every day.
"We are going into the game trying to play mistake free softball," said head coach Jake Schumann. "I want to see how we put it all together after three weeks of practice."
Set to follow the games is an alumni softball game, featuring former Islander players coming back to Chapman Field to take on the current Islander team.
"Recruiting and alumni are essential to a programs lifeblood," said Schumann. "It is something that I want to be involved with as long as I'm here in Corpus Christi.
"They are the ones that made the progress we have now and I want them to feel like they are a part of everything going on with Islander Softball."
The games are free to the public and all fans are encouraged to come out and get an early glance at next year's team that looks to contend for a Southland Conference championship.
