Thibodaux, La. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team lost a 2-0 contest to the Nicholls State Colonels on a cold day on the road in Southland Conference action.
The Islanders fall to 7-14 on the year and 0-6 in the SLC while the Colonels improved to 16-5 and 6-0 in SLC action.
The Colonels got on the board in the first inning, as Kodi Butler tripled to center field and was brought in on Audrey Wood single to make it 1-0 Colonels. The Islanders threatened in the top of the second inning, getting runners on when Landry Moore walked with one out. Following the second out, Cassie Redman singled to left center to put runners on first and second. The Islanders were unable to capitalize however, as Margo Hurdt struck out to end the inning.
The game was held at the 1-0 margin until the bottom of the fifth inning, as Nicholls got several runners on base but the Islanders were able to hold them at bay until a Tallman wild pitch allowed a Colonel runner to score and put the margin at 2-0.
The Islanders were able to get a runner on in the top of the seventh, but were not able to get on the board, as they fell by the final of 2-0. Redman collected the only hit for the Islanders on the afternoon.
The Islanders return home this week as they play host to the Texas Longhorns in a double header at Cabaniss Field on Thursday. It will be the first time in the history of the Islander program that they will play a home game against the Longhorns.
