Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball first baseman Larissa Martin has been named Hitter of the Week by the Southland Conference. It is Martin's first honor this season and she is also the first Islander to be honored this season.
Martin led the Islanders to a 5-1 record on the week as TAMUCC hosted Houston Baptist during the week and hosted the Corpus Christi Invitational over the weekend. Martin hit .429 on the week with a triple and seven RBI. Martin walked twice, got hit by a pitch twice, and added three sacrifice hits while not striking out at all during the week. She led the Islanders in RBIs and batting average for the week.
Martin had a two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning against Indiana State on Saturday afternoon to tie the game and send it to extra innings, where the Islanders eventually won 8-7 in eight innings.
In addition to the Hitter of the Week award for Martin, Islanders pitcher Addie Tallman was named honorable mention for the Pitcher of the Week award. To receive an honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland softball sports information directors.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for their own player.
