The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team continued it's fall schedule by holding scrimmages this past Saturday against Incarnate Word and Alvin College.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Islanders picked up where they left off from the weekend of October 4th when they took on St. Mary's in two scrimmages.
The Islanders collected a total of 20 hits in the two games, continuing their offensive explosion and giving the pitchers some run support to ease their minds.
With that easiness, the pitchers improved their performances from the previous weekend and shut down the opposing offenses, allowing only one run and seven hits in a combined 14 innings of action.
"I was glad to see our pitching staff get on track after the first weekend's shakiness." said Islander head coach Jake Schumann. "They worked hard all week and as a result, shut down two good hitting teams."
The Islanders also continued to improve defensively as the fall schedule progresses.
"I was impressed with the way we played defense." said coach Schumann. "Our left side of the infield made some really tough plays look routine."
With the continued offensive outburst and the newly polished pitching and defense, the Islanders look to be in good position heading into the end of the fall schedule.
"At this point of the fall, I like where we are as a team." said coach Schumann. "I think our girls are buying into out team' concept and rallying behind one another."
With only one more scrimmage against another team left on the fall schedule, the Islanders look to work out any of the remaining flaws in their game. TAMUCC takes on Texas A&M-International with a start of 1 pm on Saturday, October 25th at Islander Field to wrap up the fall schedule.
"We are looking forward to ending the fall schedule against A&M International on the 25th." said Schumann. "We will then finish the fall refining our skills to prepare us for the opener in Miami in February."
