ISLANDER SOFTBALL POSTS TOP GPA IN SLC
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team was recently recognized for its accomplishments in the classroom as it tied for the highest GPA in the Southland Conference as well as the 55th highest in the nation among Division I softball teams.
The Islanders tied with Texas State of the SLC to lead all conference schools in the rankings with a GPA of 3.18. The two schools were the only SLC members to accomplish a finish inside the top 100 schools in the nation.
In addition to being tied with Texas Sate, the Islanders also finished even with South Alabama of the Sun Belt Conference as the three schools tied for the 55th position in the team rankings.
Overall, the team finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.18 for the 2007-08 season.
Individually, nine Islanders had over a 3.0 GPA and of those, five had higher than a 3.5 GPA. Andrea Simancas and Larissa Martin both recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs for the spring semester.
"This achievement is a good indication that we are recruiting the right kids." said Islanders Head Coach Jake Schumann. "They are good softball players as well as good student-athletes."
