The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team kicked off the fall with scrimmages against St. Mary's this past weekend.

The Islanders looked explosive offensively, amassing 24 hits in two scrimmages and getting impressive showings from some young talent while the defense struggled at times.

Freshmen Alaina Byars, Alejia Kane and Sandy Schumann had impressive showings at the plate while Stacie Tassin pitched eight innings while only giving up one earned run.

"We put some kids in key situations." said head coach Jake Schumann, "We liked some of the things we saw and we saw some things we need to work on."

The Islanders look to expand on their offensive outburst as they take on Incarnate Word and Alvin this coming.

"We were happy offensively, it was our first time out and we had a plan." said Coach Schumann "We have a grasp on the defense; we just need to put it together over the next three weeks."

The Islanders are back on the diamond this Saturday as they take on Incarnate Word at 12 p.m. and cap off the afternoon with a scrimmage against Alvin at 4 p.m.
