Texas A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Jake Schumann announced the signing of Alejia Cain to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Islanders next season.

Cain, a recent graduate of Hays High School in Hays, Texas was a two-year letterwinner for coach Joanna Farr where she earned first team all-district honors as a junior and senior at shortstop as well as academic all-district both seasons.

"Alejia is the fastest player I have ever recruited," Schumann said. "I look forward to watching her compete for a starting position next season. Her athletic ability will only help our program."

Cain hit .426 as a junior and led her team to a third place district finish in 2007 and 2008. She played for the Austin Storm, Oak Hill Extreme, Austin Smash, Austin Ambassadors and Austin Babes during the summer.

She joins a handful of signees that will be new to the Islander program next season. "We have a good bunch of kids coming in. Hopefully with the group of girls we are bringing in we will start competing for conference championships." Schumann said.
