Top Moment #3: Men's Tennis Clinches NCAA Berth With SLC Tournament Win

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team had another historic season in the Southland Conference, earning a perfect 6-0 record during the regular season to clinch their seventh straight regular-season title. However, the Islanders didn't stop there. The team went on to garner two victories in the Southland Tournament to clinch their fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last seven years.

The Islanders secured their second consecutive trip to the NCAAs on April 27 after rolling past Lamar 4-1 in the championship match of the Southland Tournament. The team sealed a tight doubles point after the duo of Peter Nagy and Guillaume Rauseo topped the Cardinal pair of Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Juuso Laitinen, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles. After Lamar picked up a win on court two, the senior-freshman tandem of Matt Westmoreland and Paul Cook took Nikita Lis and Mikko Rajamak to a seven-point tiebreaker in No. 2 doubles. In the tiebreak, the Islanders rallied behind the great Corpus Christi crowd to win 8-7 (7-3).

In singles play, Javier Pujol padded the Islanders' lead to 2-0 in No. 3 singles before Lamar got on board with a straight-set victory on court two. A&M - Corpus Christi then powered their way to the title with back-to-back wins on courts one and four to clinch the match. Nagy recorded his 20th singles win of the season after downing his opponent 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles before Westmoreland, for the second straight year, clinched the title match for the Islanders. The senior won his match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to earn the Islanders a berth into the NCAA Tournament.

The Islanders advanced to the opening round of the NCAA Championships in Waco, Texas, before losing a highly competitive match to No. 4 Baylor.
