CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team will continue their four-match, non-conference road swing Wednesday, March 26, when they travel to Fort Worth to take on No. 55 TCU. The Islanders will face the Horned Frogs at 5:30 p.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
"This is a team we have a lot of respect for and that I feel is a determined well-coached team," Director of Tennis Steve Moore said. "We have to be ready to show up and play each point with intensity and do an excellent job at controlling the things we can control."
The Islanders (12-7, 1-0 SLC) are coming off a momentous 4-3 victory over No. 67 Tulane on Saturday at the Rice Invitational. After falling behind 2-1 to the defending H-E-B Tournament of Champions, the Islanders grinded their way back, and sophomore Javier Pujol clinched the match at No. 4 singles in a tough three-setter.
Peter Nagy and Ricardo Mayagoitia are both on a three-match winning streak in singles play to highlight the team. Nagy has been impressive in his junior campaign, compiling a 12-2 record in No. 1 singles. Also highlighting the team in singles play is sophomore Ricardo Mayagoitia, who holds a 9-4 record in the No. 2 spot. Pujol earned his 10th victory of the season in singles play on Saturday after clinching the match for the Islanders.
TCU enters Wednesday's match with an 8-7 record after dropping consecutive losses to a pair of ranked opponents, No. 19 Columbia and No. 12 Texas A&M. The Horned Frogs are 5-3 at home this season and have wins against No. 35 Florida State, UT Arlington, USC Upstate, San Francisco, Lamar, No. 32 Pepperdine and Middle Tennessee State.
