Peter Nagy Tabbed Southland Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
CORPUS CHRISTI – Junior Peter Nagy was named the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced today. The two-time 2014 player of the week, led the Islanders to their seventh victory of the season on Wednesday. In his three years, Nagy has garnered the weekly honor five times.
"Peter is working very hard, he's improving every week," Director of Tennis Steve Moore said. "He's working hard to get stronger, but what I'm most impressed with is the leader he's become. He's always been great with leading by example, but he's really becoming a complete leader and that's been a huge boost to our team."
The native of Budapest, Hungary, propelled the Islanders to a 5-0 victory at Prairie View A&M while earning his sixth consecutive win in No. 1 singles. Nagy teamed with Guillaume Rauseo to clinch a 6-3 doubles win over the Panthers' duo of Jackson Varney and Daniel Vasquez in the No. 1 spot. He then put together a dominating performance in No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Varney to improve to 7-1 in singles play. Nagy and Rauseo have tallied a 3-2 doubles record in the No. 1 position so far this season.
The men's team has claimed three conference weekly honors this season. Prior to Nagy's two honors, Rauseo earned the weekly accolade during the opening week of play.
Nagy, the reigning Southland Conference Player of the Year, and the rest of the Islanders men's team will take on conference foe Oral Roberts on Sunday, Feb. 16 in Dallas, Texas.
