With some of the top local tennis players assembled for the inaugural Christian Care Sleep Center Islanders Shootout on Saturday, the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Tennis program held another successful event at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The event was sponsored through a generous donation by Christian Care Sleep Center, which allowed Director of Tennis Steve Moore to hold yet another event that helps in the funding of Islanders Tennis.
"We are so grateful to Christian Care Sleep Center for their generous sponsorship of this tournament that is so beneficial for the Islanders Tennis teams," said Moore.
The tournament started with eight players from around the area teaming up with eight Islanders players, with the Islander being randomly drawn before each round to decide their partner would be.
The day came down to Denny Barre and David Harris, with Barre winning a thrilling final in tiebreak with a service ace to clinch the match. Other players in the tournament were Ruben Lerma, Art Boss, Anthony Garza, Kevin Lilies, Jason Bescenceny and Glen Shandy.
"We have such a special group of guys that played," said Moore. "Each one of them is a very strong player and great supporter of Islanders Tennis," said Moore. "This group does so much to help this team all year long. They are genuinely part of the Islanders Tennis family in Corpus Christi that is as strong as any in the country."
In addition to the sponsorship by Christi Care Sleep Center, donations from the players involved helped raise additional funds for the Islanders Tennis program that will help fund the team throughout the spring 2013 season.
