Peter Nagy Named Student-Athlete of the Week

CORPUS CHRISTI – Peter Nagy has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Nagy earned the award for his performance last week at the Rice Galleria Fall Invitational in the men's flight A singles bracket.

Nagy won his second ITA-sanctioned fall tournament at the Rice Galleria Fall Invitational in Houston, taking the title home in a tournament that featured teams from Rice, Texas Tech, Tulane, New Mexico and Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, all teams that have been ranked in the ITA Top 75 each of the last four seasons.

In the opening round Nagy beat Peter Frank of Rice, one of the top players for the Owls and a former All-Conference USA (CUSA) selection. In the semifinals, Nagy took down the No. 1 player from Tulane, Ivan Mark, by a 6-3, 6-3 final. Mark was ranked as high as No. 76 in the ITA singles rankings and was a First-Team CUSA selection last year. Mark's teammate Joe Young, a Second Team All-CUSA selection, fell to Nagy in the final by a 6-1, 6-2 score.

Nagy is 7-0 in the fall and has won both the Marco & Co. Catering Islander Open and the Rice tournament, both ITA-sanctioned events.

Nagy and the rest of the men's tennis team will next be in action at the ITA Texas Regionals at TCU on Oct. 20 in Fort Worth.
