The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will see their first live action against opponents on Friday when the 2012 Marco & Co. Catering Islanders Open gets underway at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. Matches start at 4 p.m. on Friday and will run all day on Saturday before the final rounds at noon on Sunday. Some of the men's first round matches will also be held at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club on Friday at 4 p.m. due to the number of competitors.
Heading to Corpus Christi this weekend will be members of teams from Houston, UTSA, Lamar, Sam Houston State, Texas – Pan American to face members of the men's and women's team.
Included in that group are four newcomers and four returners on the men's side, and two newcomers along with eight familiar faces on the women's side.
The tournament is in its fourth year hosted by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and is an officially sanctioned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) event. Wins by the players count towards individual ranking points in the ITA singles and doubles ranking system.
