The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will be on the road this week, as the women finish off their regular season on Wednesday against Nicholls in Beaumont, while the men play Nicholls on Wednesday and Lamar on Thursday to close out their regular season. Both the men and women play Nicholls at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, while the men close out their schedule with a 2 p.m. match on Thursday.
The Islanders men are 10-11 overall, and 2-1 in Southland Conference play. The women are currently 14-4 on the season, 7-3 in Southland matches. It ties the most conference wins for the Islanders in team history, with the team winning seven a year ago in 2011. A win over Nicholls will set a new program high in perhaps the best season in school history.
The women's team is settled into the fifth seed for the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament hosted by Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches. The Islanders will play the Northwestern State Lady Demons in the first round. NSU has taken the previous two regular season matches by a 4-3 margin each time, and the Islanders will be looking for their first ever Southland Conference Tournament win next Thursday, April 26, in the first round.
A pair of wins for the men's team would give the Islanders their fifth-straight Southland Conference title. They are one of two teams in the league with just one loss, the other being their Tuesday opponent, Nicholls. A win over the Colonels and over Lamar on Thursday would also secure the No. 1 seed in next week's Southland Conference Tournament that will also be held in Nacogdoches at the SFA Tennis complex.
