Islanders Complete Day Two at ITA/USTA Texas Regionals

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Men's and Women's Tennis Teams completed play on day two at the ITA/USTA Texas Regionals on Saturday at Texas A&M and TCU. The men's team is competing at the College Station regional while the women are in the Ft. Worth regional.

In singles action Aurelien Tave won his consolation bracket match against Soren Goritzka. Tave was up 4-1 in the first set when Goritzka retired due to injury. Nathan Robinson lost in the round of 32 of the main singles draw by a 6-1, 6-0 final against No. 4-seed Mate Zsiga of Baylor. Andrew Maingot lost a 6-3, 6-2 final against Joe Hattrup in the consolation bracket third round while Pietro Jordao won his third round match against Marton Horvath of Lamar by a 6-2, 6-4 final.

In men's doubles, Tave and Jordao lost an 8-2 final to the No. 4-seeded Texas A&M team of Alexis Klegou and Junior Ore in the round of 16.

On the women's side, Friday's top performer Stefania Nicolae lost a 6-1, 6-2 final against No. 7-seeded Edyta Cieplucha of SMU in the main draw round of 32. Sandra Burges advanced through the third round of the consolation bracket with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Micaela Silva from UTSA before falling 7-5, 6-2 against Katie Gater of Rice in the fourth round. Mia Matuszak lost a 6-2, 6-2 match to Liselot Koenen of Houston in the third round of the consolation bracket to complete singles play.

In doubles, Chelsea Horan and LeAnne Mascall lost an 8-3 match against Giorgia Pozzan and Bryony Hunter of Houston in the third round of the consolation bracket.

With play at the ITA/USTA Regionals finished, the fall schedule is completed and the Islanders will continue working towards the start of the 2012 dual match season starting in January.
