Top Moment #8: Men’s Tennis Wins Tight Match Over Cowboys in HEB Tournament
Since 1966, Corpus Christi has always been home to the HEB Tournament of Champions. This year, the Islanders men’s tennis program finished 3rd in the tournament after a hard-earned victory over Oklahoma State.

Islanders Place Record 73 Student-Athletes on Commissioner’s Honor Roll
FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi athletic department continued its academic rise, placing 72 student-athletes on the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the semester, it was announced on Tuesday. Included in that total were 14 Islanders who earned a 4.0 GPA during the spring.

Nathan Robinson, Hannah Schwarz Named Scholar-Athletes of the Year
FRISCO, Texas – A pair of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi student-athletes were named Southland Conference Student-Athletes of the Year on Monday, with Nathan Robinson and Hannah Schwarz being recognized for their accomplishments as part of the Islanders athletic department.

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi to Host Volleyball, Tennis Championships in 2013-14
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will serve as the host of the Southland Conference Volleyball and Tennis Championships in the 2013-14 school year, the league announced. It will be the first time that the Islanders have hosted the volleyball championship and the third time for the tennis championship.

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Men’s Tennis player Nathan Robinson was named to the Southland All-Academic First Team on Wednesday, while Mia Matuszak was named second team on the women’s tennis All-Academic Teams.

Robinson Collects Academic All-District Honors
Senior Nathan Robinson of the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team has been selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team in District 7, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today. Robinson, who was recently awarded the F.L. Robinson Postgraduate Scholarship from the Southland Conference, is the league’s lone representative on the team.

Robinson Wins F.L. McDonald Postgrad Scholarship
Senior Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis player Nathan Robinson is one of two winners of the Southland Conference’s F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship, the conference announced today. Robinson was joined by Stephen F. Austin track athlete Carrie Hahn in garnering the award, and the duo will be recognized during the Southland Honors Ceremony May 22 in Galveston, Texas.

Aurelien Tave Named Southland Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi senior men’s tennis player Aurelien Tave was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week honor it was announced on Monday. Tave earned the honor after helping the Islanders go 2-0 during the past week, including clinching the match against Lamar and No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming tournament.

Islanders Claim Fifth Straight Southland Title, No. 1 Tournament Seed With Win Over Lamar
BEAUMONT – “This was an incredibly determined group of guys!” That is how Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Director of Tennis Steve Moore described his team’s effort on Thursday afternoon. His team, one of the youngest in the nation and that features three freshmen and a sophomore in the top six, earned the outright Southland Conference Championship after defeating the Lamar Cardinals by a 6-1 final to complete regular season play. The Islanders have now won five straight regular season titles.

Islanders Tennis Teams Travel To Face Nicholls in Southland Matches
The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s and women’s tennis teams will be on the road this week, as the women finish off their regular season on Wednesday against Nicholls in Beaumont, while the men play Nicholls on Wednesday and Lamar on Thursday to close out their regular season. Both the men and women play Nicholls at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, while the men close out their schedule with a 2 p.m. match on Thursday.

BEAUMONT – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team clinched at least a share of their fifth straight Southland Conference Regular Season Championship with a 7-0 win over Nicholls on Wednesday afternoon. A win on Thursday against Lamar will give the Islanders the No. 1 seed in the Southland Tournament next week.

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi tennis program will have a busy weekend starting this Saturday, as the men host UTSA at 5 p.m. on Saturday, while the women face McNeese State at 12 p.m. on Saturday, and Lamar on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the final home matches of the year. It will also be Senior Day for four very special players to the Islanders program.

In an epic battle between conference rivals, UTSA rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team (10-11, 2-1 Southland) on Saturday night at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. Five of the six singles matches went the full three sets, with the Roadrunners (11-10, 3-2) emerging victorious in the final two for the victory.

Islanders Improve to 29-1 In Southland Since 2008 With 5-2 Win Over UTPA
EDINBURG, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team improved to 2-0 in Southland Conference play on Tuesday with a 5-2 win over Texas – Pan American at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on the UTPA campus. The Islanders improved to 29-1 over the last 30 Southland Conference Tournament and regular season matches since 2008, and are the four-time defending Southland Conference Champions.

Moore is one of just six coaches nationally to be selected to the prestigious position.

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team jumped back into the rankings on Tuesday afternoon after a one week absence, moving all the way up to No. 64 in the ITA Tennis national rankings following their showing at the 46th Annual HEB Tournament of Champions. The Islanders went 2-1 against three ranked teams to finish third in the event.

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team earned a momentous 4-3 victory over No. 64 Oklahoma State on Saturday to take third place in the 46th Annual HEB Tournament of Champions at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. Aurelien Tave finished off Chris Haworth at No. 2 singles with an ace to ice the match for the Islanders, who improved to 7-7 on the year.

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team delivered an impressive 4-1 victory over No. 63 Middle Tennessee State on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the HEB Tournament of Champions. The Islanders will take on No. 55 New Mexico in the second round at 4 p.m. on Friday.

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s and women's tennis teams will hit the road once again for a week of tough road matches in Mississippi and Louisiana. The Islanders men will face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Tuesday afternoon in Hattiesburg, Miss., and then head back West for a doubleheader match alongside the women against Louisiana – Lafayette on Wednesday afternoon.

Islanders Fall to #14 Texas in Front of School Record Crowd
CORPUS CHRISTI – The nationally-ranked Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team fought hard, but came up short against the No. 14 Texas Longhorns at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club in front of a school record 507 fans. Despite weather conditions and the moving of the match indoors, the Islanders still attracted one of the biggest crowds in the nation this season.

SAN ANTONIO – The nationally-ranked Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team pulled off a pair of sweeps in a doubleheader on Thursday, taking down St. Mary’s by a 7-0 final in the first match, and following it up with a 4-0 win in the second match of the day. The Islanders will now prepare to face No. 14 Texas in the first ever men’s match at the new Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in a 2 p.m. match on Sunday afternoon.

In a change of schedule the nationally-ranked Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team will play a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon against St. Mary’s (TX) in San Antonio as a final tune-up before the home opener against No. 14 Texas on Sunday afternoon. The matches against the Rattlers were originally scheduled for later in the season before being moved up to this week.

Meet Your Islanders: Men's Tennis' Andrew Maingot
Senior Andrew Maingot is in his fourth season playing tennis for the Islanders. During his freshman year, Andrew redshirted for the season. In his sophomore year, Maingot played doubles with teammate Nathan Robinson in the final three Southland matches of the year, helping the team win a third-straight league title, and picked up a win in doubles against No. 58 Iowa alongside Robinson. He also won at No. 4 singles against Centenary for his only singles win of the year. Maingot teamed with Robert Raguz to beat Texas – Pan American 8-5 at No. 3 doubles during his junior season, avenging the only team loss from a year before.

Men’s Tennis Falls in 4-2 Battle Against No. 51 TCU
FT. WORTH – The No. 68 Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis team lost a hard-fought 4-2 match against No. 51 TCU in hostile territory on Wednesday night, playing in front of nearly 400 fans at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center for the Horned Frogs home opener. The Islanders were down 4-2 when the match was stopped due to time constraints, with the two coaches agreeing before the match to stop after the first team reached four points and to finish any matches that were close to completion.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men’s tennis freshman Peter Nagy won at No. 1 singles in his first match ever while sophomore Matt Westmoreland gave a heroic performance, coming back from 0-4 in the third in the last match standing to lift the No. 73 Islanders men’s tennis team to a 4-3 win over nationally-ranked New Mexico State at the New Mexico State Tennis Complex.

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Men's and Women's Tennis Teams completed day one of the ITA Texas Regionals on Friday, picking up wins in both the singles and doubles brackets on both sides. Stefania Nicolae won two main draw matches against opponents from Texas and Texas A&M while Nathan Robinson took a main draw match over a player from Texas Tech to advance to the third round.

The two players met under the lights at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center to decide the championship as the Islanders won three-of-four titles (Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles) at the tournament.
