The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team continued to climb in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings released on Tuesday. After reaching a ranking of No. 66 last week, the Islanders have improved to No. 62 in the latest poll.
It is part of a season-long goal that the players and coaches have established to work towards every single match.
"Our goal as a team is to go to the NCAA Tournament," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore. "There are two paths to get there; either winning the conference tournament and get the automatic qualifier, or finish in the Top 45 of the national rankings."
The team reached a program-high ranking of No. 35 during the 2009 season after winning back-to-back matches against teams ranked in the Top 50.
"We just have to keep chopping wood and getting better each week," said Moore. "We are not nearly at our goal yet.
"We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but I think this team has the character to do it."
The No. 62 Texas A&M - Corpus Christi squad will be in action this Sunday, February 13 in their first home match of the season. The contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
