Islanders tennis teams finish up play in ITA Texas Regionals
The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams finished up play at the ITA Texas Regionals on Sunday. The men played in College Station on the campus of Texas A&M while the women took part in the regional held on the campus of Baylor in Waco.
On the men's side, Laurent Montoisy lost a 6-4, 6-4 match to Jean Andersen of Texas, the No. 12 seed in the tournament, in the round of 32.
The doubles match of Islanders Robert Raguz and Nathan Robinson against Ed Corrie and Jean Andersen did not yet have a result.
In the women's tournament, Mirna Cicak advanced to the fourth round of the consolation bracket by beating Kayla Stevenson by a 6-4, 7-5 margin. Cicak made it to the quarterfinal round before withdrawing. Sandra Bruges also made it to the fourth round after beating Carolina Deluca 6-2, 6-4. Bruges lost a tough 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 match to Anrinetta Botha in the round. Mia Matuszak lost 6-1, 6-0 to Daiana Negreanu in the third round to end her day.
In doubles action, Cicak and Stefania Nicolae lost an 8-1 match to Christi Liles and Nazari Urbina.
The Islanders tennis teams are done with the fall schedule and will work on improving until starting their spring seasons after the start of the New Year.
