Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Director of Tennis Steve Moore has been named chairman of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Texas Region. Moore takes over the position from Matt Knoll, the Director of Tennis at Baylor, after Knoll recently completed his three-year term as chairman.
The Texas Region is comprised of every NCAA Division I school in the state of Texas. The NCAA is divided up in to 12 regions.
"I'm honored they asked me to do this. It's an opportunity to serve college tennis which is something I really love and believe in," said Moore. "I will work as hard as I can to serve our region and the ITA."
As chairman of the ITA Texas Region, Moore is responsible for nominating members of the regional committee, running the ITA Regional Tournament for the state of Texas and having the committee vote on ITA Regional Rankings at the end of the fall and spring seasons. Moore has chosen Baylor's Knoll and SMU's Carl Neufeld to serve on the committee with him. The committee will also help determine the regional award winners and will settle any tennis-related disputes.
Moore will also be on the ITA National Ranking Committee that votes on preseason rankings, including the Top 10 freshmen/newcomer rankings, Top 125 singles players, Top 50 doubles teams and the Top 75 team rankings. In the spring, the members will vote to determine the rankings on a weekly basis throughout the season.
In addition to the rankings, Moore will also serve as an ITA National Tournament Committee Member that will help determine the at-large and wild-card selections for the ITA National Tournaments.
Moore has deep ties to the Texas region, having been the head coach for SMU and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as well as assistant coach for Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
