The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team will take part in the 52nd Rice Invitational this weekend against some of the top competition in the nation. The Islanders play No. 36 North Carolina State on Friday, Tulane on Saturday and No. 48 Rice on Sunday in the three-day event.

TAMUCC comes into the tournament with a record of 6-10 on the season after losing a tough 4-3 match against Maryland-Baltimore County in a match that finished on Wednesday afternoon after starting Tuesday night. Earlier Tuesday morning, the Islanders beat Prairie View A&M by a 4-0 final to pick up their sixth win of the year.

In their last match, the Islanders took an early 3-0 lead before the Retrievers worked their way back into it through the bottom part of the lineup. The Islanders won the doubles point on Tuesday night and then in singles, No. 1 Dmitry Novikov and No. 2 James Langford won their matches in straight sets to put the Islanders in the early lead.

UMBC won the final four singles matches at the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions to take the dual match by a 4-3 final.

The Friday match is slated to begin at 9 AM, the Saturday match is set for 10 AM and the finale against host Rice is set for 12 PM on Sunday.
