ISLANDER MEN FINISH SEASON UNDEFEATED IN SLC

Beaumont – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team completed another undefeated Southland Conference season on Monday afternoon. The Islanders were victorious over the Nicholls State Colonels by a 7-0 score in their final match of the season.

It is the second-straight year the Islanders have finished undefeated and runs their streak to 12 SLC matches won in-a-row. The Islanders have not lost a regular-season SLC match on the court since Director of Tennis Steve Moore returned to the program in 2006. The Colonels finish the season at 10-9 with a record of 1-5 in SLC play.

"I'm extremely proud of these guys," said Moore. "It takes a lot of mental toughness to compete this tough in every conference match in two years"

The Islanders were nearly flawless in completing the perfect season, taking to the doubles point by a 2-1 score and winning all six singles matches.

In singles, the Islanders continued their dominance, winning all six matches to take the match by a score of 7-0. No. 1 singles pitted Pavlov against Prakish, with Pavlov taking a 6-2, 6-3 win. No. 2 singles had Novikov taken to three sets before prevailing over Ionescu 7-5, 2-6, 10-8. Montoisy won No. 3 singles in three sets as well, winning 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 over Fischer. No. 4 singles saw Zunino take on Matong, with Zunino winning in three sets at 6-0, 3-6, 6-3. In No. 5 singles, Jaume Farras made quick work of Mouline, winning 6-3, 6-2. The final singles match had Pace downing Shetty by a 6-3, 6-4 final.

The Islanders completed their season with the match and now wait till Saturday, April 25 to play in the Southland Conference Tournament following a first-round bye on Friday. TAMUCC will play the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed first-round match.

"We have a lot of work to do to get ready for the conference," said Moore. "This team's goal is to win the conference championship and to go to the NCAA Tournament."

"I think anything less than that would be quite a disappointment for these guys."
