ISLANDER MEN'S TENNIS RANKED #35 NATIONALLY IN LATEST POLL
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team made a big jump this week, moving from #52 in the ITA tennis ranking all the way up to #35. The move came after a strong showing in the HEB Tournament of Champions, where they beat New Mexico and Middle Tennessee and lost to Texas Tech in the finals. New Mexico went from #33 to #36 this week, Middle Tennessee went from #53 to #58 and Texas Tech improved from #35 to #30.
The ranking is the second-highest for the Islanders under the watch of Director of Tennis Steve Moore. The high for the Islanders under Moore was in 2007 when the Islanders were ranked #32 in the nation. The Islanders have beaten national powerhouses Nebraska, Indiana, Middle Tennessee and New Mexico this season.
"I think it is a real honor for this university and this team," said Moore. "It shows a lot about the character and work ethic of these guys."
The Islanders will be taking their #35 ranking on the road soon, as they play in the Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Invite in Houston from March 20-22. That is the next competition for the Islanders as they have this week off after last weekends annual HEB Tournament of Champions
