The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team will be hosting the HEB Tournament of Champions College Tennis Championships starting this Friday at 9 AM at the HEB Tennis Center. The #52 Islanders will begin the tournament by taking on #53 Middle Tennessee in a matchup of teams ranked in the ITA Top 75 team tennis rankings.

"This tournament is arguably the most prestigious high level team tournament in the country," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore. "44 years in a row is a very special tradition and I can't thank HEB enough for their long generous support."

The tournament will feature eight teams, including seven from the ITA Top 75. The teams participating are #33 New Mexico, #35 Texas Tech, #50 DePaul, #52 TAMUCC, #53 Middle Tennessee, #65 BYU, #73 Western Michigan and South Alabama.

"We are very proud of this year's field, with six teams in the top 53 in the nation and seven ranked teams overall," said Moore. "I feel this year's field represents the tournament very well."

The Islanders come into the HEB having last played against #41 Nebraska and Texas-Pan American on Feb. 13, winning both matches, a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Nebraska and a 6-1 win over UTPA. The Islanders are 3-3 on the season, having lost to #10 Baylor, #42 New Mexico and #68 Radford with their other win coming against #44 Indiana.

The Islanders kick off at 9 AM and will be in action again in the afternoon. Depending on the results of the day, the Islanders will either play at 9 AM or 12 PM on Saturday.

It has been a busy two weeks for the Islanders tennis program as they played host to the first ever Corpus Christi Women's Clinic Islander Team Invite for the women's team and now host the HEB Tournament of Champions College Tennis Championships.

"Our sponsors and the Corpus Christi tennis community have been great and make it possible to put on these events," said Moore. "I can't thank HEB enough for their generous support of this tournament."
