The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team got it's second player of the week honor as Jaumer Farras was recognized for his determined effort against #62 Nebraska this past Friday.
Farras gritted out a tough match in No. 5 singles to tie the match at 3-3 and send it to the doubles point. After going up 5-2 in the third set of his match against Benedikt Lindheim of Nebraska, Farras suffered a full body cramp and lost the next eight points in a row. Barely able to stand, Farras refused to default the match, and won the last game serving underhanded.
"I don't know if I've ever seen a player show more courage than Jaume did out there, 90 percent of players would have defaulted the match." said Director of Tennis Steve Moore.
It is the first award for Farras this season and the second time an Islander has received the honor. Laurent Montoisy was named SLC Player of the Week for Jan. 27.
Farras and the Islanders will be back in action next on March 6 and 7 as they host the 45th Annual HEB Tennis Team Classic. Participants will include Texas Tech, BYU, New Mexico, South Alabama, Middle Tennessee, DePaul and Western Michigan.
