Members of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's team took part in the first day of individual action this Friday.
The men's team members participated in the Baylor HEB Invitational on the campus of Baylor University.
In the singles matches of the day, Mike Pavlov of TAMUCC lost to Attila Bucko of host Baylor by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Jose Zunio of the Islanders also fell to a member of the host school as Zunio fell by scores of 6-4, 6-3 to Marc Bruche of Baylor.
Dmitry Novikov of TAMUCC had better luck as he was able to handle Matt Teivens of Wichita State by score of 6-4, 6-2. Novikov fell in the round of 32 by scores of 7-6(6), 6-3 to Denes Luckas of Baylor.
Islander Jaume Farras opened with a win over Eduardo Salas of New Mexico State by scores of 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Brievc Hamon of UT Arlington would defeat Farras in the second round by scores of 6-2, 6-3.
Alex Pavlov of TAMUCC received a bye to the second round before falling to Jim Brouleau of New Mexico State by scores of 6-4, 6-2.
Pavlov participated in the consolation bracket and was able to defeat Joe Hattrup of Texas Tech with winning sets of 6-3, 6-3. Pavlov then received a bye to the third round where he will face Laurent Garcin of Nevade at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Zunio also defeated a member of the Texas Tech contingent, Milos Kustudija, turning him back by scores of 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(5). Zunio received a bye as well and will take on Christian Rojmar, also of Texas Tech, on Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m.
In doubles action, the team of Novikov and Pavlov defeated John Lewis and Houssam Yassine of Alabama by a score of 8-5. Novikov and Pavlov fell 8-6 to Sam Garforth-Bles and Christoph Muller of Rice in the second round.
The team of Pavlov and Zunio competed against Brievc Hamon and Adam Srkala of UT Arlington and were knocked out in the first round by a score of 8-6.
James Langford and David Pace received a bye in the first round and then represented the Islanders against Mike Donovan and Cameron Nash of TCU, beating them 8-4 and advancing to the quarterfinals to be held at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
