CORPUS CHRISTI – With the beginning of the season on the horizon, the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's and women's basketball teams hosted another successful Islanders Basketball Tip-Off Dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
"This year's tipoff dinner was another great event," Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby said. "It was wonderful to have someone as respected and knowledgeable as Fran Fraschilla speak with our coaches, staff, student-athletes and supporters. I think hearing him and our coaches speak got all of us excited for the start of what should be a great basketball season in 2013-14."
The featured speaker for the evening was ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla. The "Honorary Coach" for the event was Fulton Coastcon General Contractors, while the table sponsors were Stripes, Ed Hicks dealerships, AEP Texas, Bergstrom Benkendorfer, Braselton Homes and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
The event was emceed by KIII TV 3's Dan McReynolds and also included speeches from head men's basketball coach Willis Wilson, head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick and Fraschilla, with all three emphasizing the strong potential both of these programs have in the 2013-14 campaign.
The women's team will get its season underway on Sunday at 4 p.m. with an exhibition matchup against Texas A&M – International before opening up its regular season play by hosting the Emerald Beach Islander Classic on Nov. 8-9. The exhibition game as well as all games in the tournament will be played at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The Islanders men will begin their season in the Dugan as well, as they host Huston-Tillotson on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina Islanders Basketball Tournament.
