Top Performance #9: Johnathan Jordan's Double-Double at Lamar
It was an up-and-down season for the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball team. But when the team faced its biggest must-win game of the season, its best player came up with a huge performance.
On Jan. 12, the Islanders carried a long winless streak into a road matchup with Lamar, a team that had endured an equally tough season on the court. But A&M-Corpus Christi got a huge performance from sophomore Johnathan Jordan to jump out to an early lead and hold on for the 62-56 win.
The Islanders connected on 12 field goals in the first half, one scored by Jordan and nine others being assisted on by the Houston native. He went on to match the school record with 11 assists in the game against four turnovers while also posting three steals. He also grabbed five rebounds and led the team with 15 points, giving him his first career double-double – the first of three he would record on the season.
Jordan finished the season with a school-record 159 assists, smashing his previous record of 138 by over 15 percent. He was awarded Southland Conference Honorable Mention for his efforts on the year.
