Men's Basketball Signs Jeff Beverly to National Letter of Intent

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball team has signed 6-foot-7 forward Jeff Beverly (Houston, Texas/Clear Springs HS) to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Willis Wilson announced today. The 235-pound Beverly is the 44th-ranked player in the state of Texas according to TexasHoops.com.

"Physically, Jeff is a young man who has developed well beyond his years," Wilson said. "There aren't many players with his combination of size and skill at the high school level, so this is a big get for our program. To get a player of his caliber out of Houston is definitely a win for Texas A&M – Corpus Christi."

Beverly has averaged a double-double over his last two years at Clear Springs under Chris Johnson, including 11 games with 20 points or more and 20 games with double-digit rebounds. In every game but one he finished in double figures in scoring. For his efforts, he was selected as the Offensive MVP of District 24-5A after leading his school to 23-10 mark a year ago. Beverly played his AAU ball for Gulf Coast Blue Chip under head coach Clyde Jackson.

As a sophomore, Beverly helped lead Clear Springs to a 30-6 record. He averaged 12.6 points, including eight contests with 20 points or more, including 28 in a win over Bryan on Dec. 3. He also added five double-digit rebound games in his sophomore campaign, and is expected to be one of the top players in the area as a senior.

Beverly also trained with former NBA player and coach John Lucas in Houston, just as current Islander and Houston native Johnathan Jordan has in the past. Beverly has been rated the seventh-best senior in the Houston area and the 12th best player in the city overall.

The Islanders will return to the court Saturday night as they match up with Utah State University for an 8:05 p.m. CT tipoff. The game can be heard on NewsRadio 1360 KKTX with Yannis Koutroupis on the call beginning at 7:50 CT with the pregame show.
