Wilson to Take Part in ON THE LINE Statement Week

CORPUS CHRISTI – Head Coach Willis Wilson and the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball staff will team up with ON THE LINE to help support prostate cancer awareness and education at Wednesday night's game against UTSA at the American Bank Center. The Islanders' coaches will wear blue bow ties for the contest, which tips off at 7 p.m. on Stripes Court.

ON THE LINE and the Black Coaches & Administrators (BCA) have proclaimed this week as "Statement Week." Wilson is one of nearly 100 African American Division I coaches to show their support and help raise awareness about prostate cancer this week. Statement Week is designed to encourage African American men to not only learn the risk factors of prostate cancer, but also how to communicate with loved ones and physicians about their health.

"Obviously this is a cause that I am more than happy to help support," Wilson said. "Prostate cancer effects one in five African American men, and that's a number that can't be ignored. I'm glad to be a part of the group of coaches who are taking part in this."

Wilson and the Islanders will look to sweep the season series with the Roadrunners on Wednesday night, having posted a 50-49 victory over UTSA in San Antonio on Jan. 11. The game will also be the second "Los Islanders" game, as $3 of every regular-price single-game ticket sold will benefit the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

ASCO's expert panel provided the core clinical prostate cancer information, which serves as the basis for the campaign content. ON THE LINE has also enlisted teammates ZERO — The Project to End Prostate Cancer, Us TOO International Prostate Cancer Education & Support Network, Prostate Conditions Education Council (PCEC), and the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) to serve as local and community resources and networks.
