CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball preseason officially got underway Friday afternoon, as the team hosted its first official practice of 2011-12. The Islanders will follow the first practice up with Islanders Invasion on Saturday afternoon, slated to begin following the volleyball match which starts at 1 p.m.
"This is one of the best days of the year for me," head coach Willis Wilson said. "Being able to finally work with our players in full-go practices is the first step our team will take in a long journey this season. Watching this team grow throughout the 2011-12 season will be a thrill for our coaches and our fans."
Oct. 14 is the first day that the NCAA allows men's basketball teams to participate in full practices, giving the Islanders four weeks to prepare for the regular-season opener on Nov. 11 at Oklahoma State. The squad also will host an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 5, against Incarnate Word at the American Bank Center.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, both the men's and women's teams will participate in Islanders Invasion immediately following the 1 p.m. volleyball match against Southeastern Louisiana at the Dugan Wellness Center. Both teams will take part in a three-point contest and a scrimmage, while the men's team will compete in a slam-dunk contest.
Season tickets for both the men's and women's basketball teams are on sale now by calling 361-825-BALL or clicking here. Tickets start at $99 for men's basketball and $70 for women's basketball.
